Captain Kristian Monohan has been with the Bent County Sheriff’s Office since January of 2019. Monohan was born in Modesto, California and moved to Trinidad, Colorado in 2003. Monohan attended Hoehne High School and graduated from Trinidad State Junior College.
Prior to working at the Bent County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Monohan served our country in the United States Army as a Combat Infantryman with the 101st Airborne Division for 4 years. Monohan deployed once to Afghanistan for 12 months. Monohan was also a Police Officer for the Raton Police Department for approximately 10 months before returning to Colorado.
In January of 2019, Monohan was one of three persons selected for the Bent County Sheriff’s Office employment longevity program and was sponsored to attend the Otero Junior College Law Enforcement Training Academy. Monohan is a POST certified as well as a fully trained Detentions Deputy and Dispatcher. In 2021 Monohan was assigned to the Investigations Division where he solved the highest number of cases per year in Bent County History. In 2022 Monohan was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, leading a team of Deputies and managing ongoing training for all Office Staff. Monohan out preformed all other Deputies in all measurable areas in Law Enforcement, achieving the TOP COP award every year from 2019 to 2022. In January of 2024, Monohan was promoted to the Rank of Captain to assist with the operations of the Combine Bent/Otero Jail, help oversee the construction within the facility and assist in the oversight of the Patrol Division.
Captain Monohan was selected by the Otero College Police Academy to Instructor in several areas of study, to include Firearms, building search, active shooter, SFST, handling of progress calls and vehicle contacts.
When not working, Captain Monohan enjoys spending time with his children, his dogs, and watching football.
